Mosquito treatment: what if the solution was at the heart of the textile?
Summer is coming and with it the time of mosquitoes! Mosquitoes transmit viral and parasitic diseases. Their bites can affect human life to a very large extent and can go so far as to spread sometimes serious diseases (chikungunya, dengue, Zika, malaria, lymphatic filariasis …). (1) As you know, there are all kinds of products to fight these small insects – but did you know that there are mosquito repellent treatments suitable for textiles?
Home textiles, but also clothing textiles can be treated preventively to prevent the small unpleasant bites that we all know. Be careful though, not all treatments are created equal. When it comes to a preventive treatment, it must be integrated directly into the heart of the textile material during an industrial process and this for optimal efficiency. The big advantage of a preventive treatment at the heart of the textile is that it will resist for a very long time and this even after several washes. There are also products to apply directly to clothes often in the form of spray.
What products are used to process textiles?
The treatments we offer use an innovative quality molecule: geraniol.
Geraniol is found in various plants such as roses, curry, coriander, lavender, bay leaf, thyme, lemon balm and geraniums. The active ingredient is easily biodegradable and does not cause neurological damage to humans or animals. Unlike other competing products containing permethrin, it does not attack the nervous system of parasites but repels them with its fragrance.(2)
Are all Geraniol-based treatments equal?
Do not hope to recover geraniol from the plants in your garden to treat your textiles, unfortunately, this would have little impact on your summer evenings and you may hear these little unpleasant buzzes from our friends mosquitoes.
