How to choose your duvets and pillows? Dopen thefilling that suits yout
Having the rightduvet and pillow for your bed is essential for a good night’s sleep.
There are so many things to consider, including filling and size… Not only do you need to find duvets and pillows that match your tastes, but they also need to be adapted to the temperature of your room.
This post will guide you through all the factors involved in selecting theright products, duvet and pillow.
Filling: Feathers, Wool, Cotton and Microfiber
The duvets come with a choice of different trims, each with its advantages and disadvantages :
1) Feather and Down
This natural filling is composed of real duck or goose feathers. Most often, these are down feathers, the small fluffy feathers found on the underside of the bird closest to its skin. These feathers retain heat well and keep you warm on the coldest nights. As with most down products, if maintained and washed by professionals, they will last longer than most synthetic options.
The only downsides are that they are likely to be more expensive than other duvets and some people may be allergic (1) to feathers.
2) Wool
It is another natural product that offers great breathability and retains heat well. Wool duvets usually have a similar price to those filled with feathers. However, they are also naturally hypoallergenic (2), so wool is a great choice if you are allergic to feathers.
The disadvantages of wool duvets are that they need to be washed at a lower temperature, and washing them regularly can shorten their lifespan. You may also find that wool flattens faster than other trims.
3) Cotton
Cotton is a natural fiber from cotton. When used to fill a duvet orpillow, cotton absorbs and later releases moisture, allowing its user to keep a feeling of freshness. They’re also durable and easy to clean, so they’ll likely last longer than some other options.
Cotton tends to flatten so you won’t get the comforting volume and down you can get with other natural fiber fillings. However, they are usually much more affordable than feather and wool duvets.
4) Microfibers
Microfibers are tiny synthetic fibers that give a similar feel to down. Duvets filled with microfibers are very lightweight and are generally affordable. They are also extremely durable and easy to clean at home without the need for a professional.
However, if you like the way feathers and heavier trims fit your body, you might find that microfibers are too light and don’t give you that feeling of comfort.
5) Treatment for mites
Did you know that duvets and pillows are available with treatments to improve the comfort of people sensitive to dust mites? There are textiles on the market treated with responsible solutions that provide comfort of life for consumers.
The treatment is integrated into the heart of the textile material during an industrial process for optimal efficiency and will allow you to spend good nights in peace.
